For any child, a good sunscreen is broad spectrum, SPF 30 or higher, ideally mineral (India's sunscreen consensus prefers mineral filters for children), and applied generously every day.
ado is an Indian skincare brand made for kids, tweens and teens aged 7–17: a gentle oat face wash, a daily moisturiser and a zinc oxide SPF 50+ sunscreen. Below: why parents choose ado's sunscreen, how to use it, what we found across all 19 labels, and the other 18 sunscreens, brand by brand.

Why do parents choose ado's sunscreen?
Parents choose ado's sunscreen for zinc oxide as the only UV filter at SPF 50+, a 100 mL tube, and one gentle formula for every age from 7 to 17. Here are the facts behind each point.
- Zinc oxide as the only UV filter, at SPF 50+. Of the 19 sunscreens we read, ado's was the only one rated SPF 50 or higher whose ingredient list shows zinc oxide as the only UV filter. The other four zinc-oxide-only sunscreens are rated SPF 30 (Tikitoro Kids and Teens), SPF 30+ (SunScoop) or SPF 20 (Mamaearth Mineral Based).
- Mineral filters, as India's consensus prefers for children. PRISM-ISF (2025), the Indian Sunscreen Forum's consensus, says: "Due to the characteristics of the skin of children, a sunscreen containing inorganic filters, like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, is preferred over any other sunscreen."
- More margin in real life. The same paper says "SPF protection is directly linked to the quantity applied", and that most people apply 0.5–1.5 mg/cm² rather than the recommended 2 mg/cm², "which greatly reduces effectiveness". A higher SPF leaves more room for error when a child applies too little before the school bus. That doesn't make SPF 30 unsafe: PRISM-ISF's minimum for children over six months is SPF 15+.
- A 100 mL tube. ado's comes in 100 mL. Tikitoro's and SunScoop's zinc-oxide-only sunscreens come in 75 ml.
- One sunscreen from 7 to 17. ado's is labelled for ages 7 to 17, so one tube works for a 7-year-old and a 17-year-old. Tikitoro makes separate Kids (4–10) and Teens (11–16) versions, and Tuco Kids' range covers 3 to 15.
- Made in India. It's made in a GMP- and ISO-certified facility in India, it's cruelty-free, and delivery is free across India.
- A gentle label you can read in full. It's labelled non-comedogenic, which means it's formulated not to clog pores, and it's paraben-free and phthalate-free. Its full ingredient list is on the product page; 13 of the 19 sunscreens we read publish one.
What's in ado's sunscreen, and how should your child use it?
ado Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50+ is a lightweight, non-greasy mineral sunscreen whose only active ingredient is zinc oxide. It's labelled broad spectrum SPF 50+ (UVA/UVB) and costs ₹1,499 for 100 mL.
Alongside zinc oxide, it contains oat kernel flour (colloidal oatmeal) and feverfew juice, and it leaves a breathable finish. Every ingredient is listed on the product page and explained on our ingredients page.
It's the last of three steps in the ado routine, after the gentle oat face wash and the daily moisturiser, and all three are made for ages 7–17.
On a school day:
- Apply it last in the morning routine, after the face wash and moisturiser, on clean, dry skin, 15 minutes before going out.
- Use enough. Dot it on the forehead, cheeks and nose, then blend outwards. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) notes that most people use too little sunscreen, so be generous.
- Reapply at least every 2 hours outdoors, and straight after swimming, sweating or towel drying: before PE, after the lunch break and after every swimming class. A tube in the school bag makes this easy.
- Wash it off in the evening with a gentle face wash, then moisturise.
Good to know: No PA rating is stated; it's labelled broad spectrum (UVA/UVB). It makes no water-resistance claim, so reapply after every swim. ado's products contain fragrance (it's the last ingredient on each label); if your child's skin is sensitive, patch-test first or choose a fragrance-free option.
What did we find reading 19 kids' sunscreen labels?
Most of the 19 are SPF 50 or higher, seven list only mineral filters, and eight state no PA grade, ado's included. Here are the counts, from each brand's own pages.
- SPF: ado's is SPF 50+. Of the 19, 11 are SPF 50 or higher, 7 are SPF 30 and one is SPF 20.
- Mineral filters only: 7 of the 19 list only zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide as UV filters on a full ingredient list: ado's, Tikitoro Kids and Teens, SunScoop and Mamaearth's three. Five of these seven, ado's included, use zinc oxide as the only UV filter.
- SPF 50 or higher with zinc oxide alone: ado's is the only one. Chicco describes its SPF 50 as a zinc oxide mineral cream, but its full list is in a pack-artwork file we couldn't read, and Himalaya and Sebamed don't name their UV filters on the pages we read.
- PA grade: 11 of the 19 state one. Eight don't, including ado's, which is labelled broad spectrum (UVA/UVB).
- Full ingredient list: 13 of the 19 publish one on the product page, ado's included.
- Fragrance: 7 list fragrance, ado's included; 6 list none, and 6 show no full list to check.
How do you choose a sunscreen for your child?
Read five things on the label: the UV filters, the SPF, the UVA labelling, the stated age and whether it suits your child's skin. Then choose a texture your child will wear, and make sure enough goes on, often enough.
- UV filters, on the ingredient list. PRISM-ISF prefers inorganic filters (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide) for children, and the AAP suggests zinc oxide or titanium dioxide for sensitive areas such as the nose, cheeks and tops of the ears. Read the ingredient list rather than the product name. ado's list shows zinc oxide as the only UV filter. Our guide to mineral vs chemical sunscreen for kids explains the difference.
- SPF 30 or higher. SPF tells you how much UVB, the burning rays, a sunscreen filters out, and the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) recommends SPF 30 or higher. PRISM-ISF's minimum for children over six months is SPF 15+. ado's is SPF 50+, which leaves more margin when a child applies too little.
- UVA protection: broad spectrum and PA. "Broad spectrum" means a sunscreen can protect against both UVA and UVB rays, the AAD explains. PA is a separate grade for UVA, the rays behind tanning, from PA+ to PA++++; PRISM-ISF explains that it reflects how much UVA-induced tanning a sunscreen prevents. ado's sunscreen is labelled broad spectrum (UVA/UVB), and no PA rating is stated.
- A stated age that includes your child. ado's is made for ages 7 to 17. Of the others we read, some start from birth or from age 1 or 3, some stop at 10, 15 or 16, and some give no age.
- Your child's skin. For acne-prone skin, look for "non-comedogenic", which means formulated not to clog pores; ado's sunscreen is labelled non-comedogenic. For sensitive skin, PRISM-ISF advises a patch test first. ado's sunscreen lists fragrance as its last ingredient, so patch-test it first if your child's skin is sensitive.
- A texture your child will wear every day. Sunscreen only helps if it goes on every morning, so let your child try the feel. ado's is lightweight and non-greasy, with a breathable finish, and it's the last step after the moisturiser.
- Enough, and often enough. The AAP advises reapplying every 2 hours and after swimming, sweating or towel drying, whatever the label says. For a child outdoors all day, that matters as much as the SPF number.
